Fiber Art

The fiber arts have always been part of my life; I taught myself to knit when I was eleven. Over the years I’ve taken advantage of the vibrant Bay Area textile culture—attending classes and joining various guilds.  I learned spinning, needle tatting, weaving, coiled basketry, twining and pine needle basketry.  With so many techniques available, I often pick up a needle and work spontaneously;  self expression is a natural result.

Coiled basketry using cassette or VCR tapes is my favorite.  It came naturally to me and I am able to create forms spontaneously.  I also copy ancient vessels from archeological illustrations, making a connection between ancient craft and 21st Century art.
